Start in Boise. Cruise the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, then bike beside the Payette River, a tributary of the Snake.

Meet us in Boise. Begin riding in Idaho City, a historic mining town where you can still pan for gold. Bicycle the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway - a gorgeous route with stunning views of the Sawtooth range - beside Mores Creek, then Lamar Creek and finally Beaver Creek. Bicycle into Lowman, on the Payette River, to stay at the Sourdough Lodge. Today's ride offers 44 miles and 4,802 feet of elevation gain.

Up and over: meet the foothills of the Sawtooth Range.

Today's ride is a bit more challenging, with 5,089 feet of elevation gain spread over 43 miles. Bicycle over Banner Summit, a long but gradual mountain pass. To one side: the Sawtooth Wilderness, with 217,000 pristine acres of rugged forests and pristine lakes. To the other: the Salmon-Challis National Forest, gateway to the 2.3-million-acre Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, with more contiguous acres of road-free wild lands than anywhere in the lower 48. From the summit - one of Idaho’s highest at 7,056 feet - descend into the town of Stanley, surrounded by the Sawtooth Mountains.

Raft. Fly-fish. Hike. Kayak. Float the river. Ride your bike. Ride a horse. Or just relax.

Today is loaded with options: rent a boat or take a boat tour; go for a hike. Take a guided fly-fishing trip or spend a half-day horseback riding. Float the Salmon River or ride your bike to tour the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery - take your pick.

Bicycle from Stanley to Ketchum, over Galena Pass. Explore Sun Valley.

Pedal through pastoral agricultural lands this morning, then up to Galena Pass along the Sawtooth Scenic Byway, showcase of the Sawtooth Mountains. Today's route is 59 miles, with 3,130 feet of elevation gain. Watch for pronghorn antelope, deer and elk! Spend the next two nights at the Tyrolean Lodge, just outside Sun Valley proper.

Explore Sun Valley.

Explore Sun Valley today! Play tennis, shop, go horseback riding, mountain biking or hiking in the mountains. Rent a paddle boat or even take a wine tour. Or head out for a road ride.

Bicycle from Sun Valley to the Powerhouse Pub & Bike Shop. Magic Reservoir for those who haven't over-indulged. And maybe for those who have.

Ride 15 miles South to Hailey, Idaho for a stop at the famous Powerhouse Pub and Bike Shop. Enjoy a grass-fed beef burger and your choice of 130 beers - while ogling the coolest new bikes and gear. If you haven't over-indulged, bicycle 30 more miles after lunch to Magic Reservoir for a final toast (total mileage for the day = 40, with 1,220 feet of elevation gain.) Hop into the van back to Boise to finish the trip.
