Ferry to horseshoe-shaped Orcas Island. Explore the ancient trees of Moran State Park. Soak up immense views from the top of Mt. Constitution. Head to San Juan Island's Friday Harbor for the next two nights.
Baked-from-scratch goods, fruit parfaits and hearty eggs await this morning. Board the ferry to Orcas Island where you’ll find Mt. Constitution - the highest point in the islands – swathed in colossal evergreens and ferny forests. In this magical place, crystal-clear freshwater lakes rest atop a mountain on an island surrounded by salt water. Hike to the summit through old-growth forest to the most spectacular view in the islands! This afternoon, ferry to San Juan Island for a two-night stay at beautifully-restored Tucker House, an 1898 historic inn. Just around the corner you'll find the shops and eateries of Friday Harbor, which Conde Nast Traveler calls "one of the most beautiful towns in America." Explore a bit, then choose your favorite place to eat from several award-winning restaurants. We'll happily make recommendations.
Meet the resident Orca whale pods this morning. Explore American Camp, where U.S. soldiers boarded during a U.S./British occupation of the island.
Three resident orca pods call the San Juan Islands home. Their families are so tightly-knit that each has its own language! Today's whale watching excursion is an amazing way to learn more about these miraculous mammals. Then wander the open, wind-swept prairies around American Camp, where soldiers lived during a peaceful 12-year joint U.S./British occupation of the island. Rife with wildflowers in the spring and early summer, you might think you’d been transported to the southern California coastline were it not for the snowcapped mountain backdrop. Dinner tonight at the Coho Restaurant is another farm-to-table favorite, featuring island-grown specialties with a Mediterranean flair.
Kayak the kelp forests and rocky shoreline of Roche Harbor. Watch for bald eagle, seal and sea lion! After lunch in Friday Harbor, head back to Seattle.
The peaceful waters of Roche Harbor are the perfect place for first-time kayakers. Start off the morning with dry-land kayak instruction, then paddle with your guides on a guided tour along the harbor’s rocky shores. Kelp forests, bald eagles, seals and sun-worshiping sea lions await! Enjoy lunch on your own at another of Friday Harbor’s delightful cafes before ferrying back to Anacortes and shuttling south again to Seattle.
As an optional extra, a person traveling solo on any inn-to-inn trip may reserve a room for his or her exclusive use. This will guarantee you a private room and private bath every night. Unlike other tour companies, if you're willing to share a room, there is no extra charge for coming solo, no matter when you sign up for the tour - even if you wind up with a private room by default.
