Who is Dan?

Dan grew up in Minnesota and started his professional life as an aerospace engineer. But during a life-changing sabbatical in 2017, he quickly pivoted towards guiding. He led mountain trips in Arctic Norway while working at a remote island lodge. From there, he earned his Wilderness EMT certification in Scotland before jumping to Nicaragua to continue guiding volcano hiking trips. His guiding adventures then came to the United States as a backpacking guide in Washington State before he discovered the thrill of exploring the world by bicycle and moved to leading cycling vacations. In addition to guiding, Dan is passionate about working with animals and has cared for a variety of creatures on three continents, including pumas, bears, monkeys, pigs, horses, raptors, porcupines, and (most recently) raccoons, opossums, and farm animals at a wildlife center on the Olympic Peninsula. Through these travels and experiences, Dan has started sharing his unique stories in a book series entitled “The Nomadic Notebook.” While he loves sharing his favorite places in Washington State with Bicycle Adventures, Dan still indulges in his passion for hiking by often heading into the Olympic Mountains on personal trips or with the Jefferson County Search and Rescue team.
