In the past, we’ve been opposed to using electric bikes, but as time has gone on we began getting more and more requests from our guests for them. So…about two years ago we began investigating possibilities and pricing. We had a couple of e-bike companies bring their equipment over for demos. And this year we tried them out on a couple of our tours.
Here’s a snippet from an email we received today from one of our recent e-biking guests:
“I used to love riding with my husband and with friends – it was what we did for fitness and fun. Then I lost my endurance and had a terrible time trying to get it back – the smallest amount of adversity wore me out. It felt like a miracle to realise that riding a pedal-assisted e-bike would let me regulate the amount of work I have to do in the hills, in the heat, or on slow surfaces. My e-bike lets me pedal for as long as I like without burning out or falling behind. It’s tons of fun – and lets me re-build endurance and fitness at the same time. If that isn’t a minor miracle, I don’t know what is!
Because the e-bike only gives me extra power when I pedal, it feels like a bike, not a motor bike. I have to work to get help…somehow the difference matters a lot to me. I don’t think I’d enjoy riding a motor bike while my husband and friends were riding bikes. Having said that, I get a huge kick out of zooming up hills once in a while…
I’d recommend an e-bike to anyone who wants to build or re-build endurance and fitness, and have a blast while they do…
– Susan”
